Colors of Kelie

Today we want to share a story about a young woman by the name of Kelie Babcock. We are so excited to share this story about this amazing young woman who we met several years ago.  She is such an inspiration to all she is in contact with. She is constantly Celebrating her Abilities by encouraging others to be there very best through her art. She has been overcoming challenges since being diagnosed with Escobar syndrome, a rare birth defect that causes short stature and deformities, often with the head and spine. She shows people everyday in spite of her physical limitations she can achieve anything. Please enjoy this sweet story of Kelie Babcock and how she wants others to Live it, Love it, Rock it!

Kelie grew up in Mountain Green and went to school at Morgan High. After graduation in 2001, she attended Weber State University where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Social Work.  Her minor was in art and that continues to be a hobby she enjoys as she participates in art shows in the state. She is currently working as the Assistive Technology Coordinator for Roads to Independence in Ogden, UT. She teaches classes and workshops on "Living Well with a Disability" and serving on Senator Orrin Hatch's Committee for Disability Related Issues. Kelie loves traveling and seeing new places - whether its a road trip or a cruise! She has a pet pig named Gilbert and the most amazing family anyone could ever ask for.  She sees life as an incredible adventure, and wants to take advantage of every day. Kelie was named Ms. Wheelchair Utah in 2010.

As a Utah artist she has made it her mission to combat unsightly graffiti. Kelie has donated her artwork to South Salt Lake’s Utility Box Art Program to combat graffiti on utility boxes. The South Salt Lake Utility Box Art Program was started in November of 2011. The program’s artwork adorns a total of 12 utility boxes as they approach the 2nd anniversary of the South Salt Lake Utility Box Art Program.

Take a look at this link below as Kelie explains her reasoning for donating her art work to this program.

Everyone has a story. Kelie's art tells her story.

She says, "New life, nature, the growth of trees, birds in flight. These express the reassurance that no matter what, no matter how tough life gets, I am loved and watched over. I am part of something much bigger than myself.
Everyone sees the world in different ways. Vibrant, bold color express how I determine to think and love in life; covering every canvas completely.

I use heavy strokes of deep color. These strokes declare that I decide the course of my life, and that we are all able to, with fierce courage, live the life we were made for.

Life is an adventure. Leap fearlessly. Colors of Kelie."

I hope that you all enjoyed getting to know Kelie as much as we have. She is wonderful isn't she?! What a shining example to all of us. She is a daily reminder to love everything in life and to Celebrate your Abilities everyday.
